Supported Employment

Real jobs for real people. We think people with autism can be a part of the labor market experience provided they have adequate onsite support.

We endorse the approach on employment given by the Rehabilitation Act Amendment (Public Law 102-569) Supported Employment Definition: Competitive employment in an integrated setting with ongoing support services for individuals with the most significant disabilities for whom competitive employment has not traditionally occurred and who, because of the nature and severity of their disabilities, need ongoing support services including both intensive initial support services and also extended services after transition from these initial support services in order to perform work.
This approach involves job coaching in the work setting individualized, long-lasting and with enough experience and knowledge of autism.
In APACAF, several residents with TEA have been working in different part time jobs in the community under this model; but, now a days, only two of them work and we are trying to enlarge this number even in spite of the rampant current unemployment in Spain.
